Some weddings feel like stepping into a movie—this one felt like stepping into twilight, autumn magic, and pure authenticity all at once.

Photographing this Halloween-themed wedding at Gather at the Lakes in the Akron area was a dream for my nostalgia-fueled, moody-romantic heart.

From the black wedding dress to the horror-film table décor, every detail felt intentional, cinematic, and wildly true to who they are as a couple.

Twilight-Inspired Ceremony Vibes

Their ceremony took place right at golden hour, with soft fading light and the warm glow of fall surrounding them. It had that Twilight-forest energy... moody, intimate, emotional. Choosing not to do a first look made everything even more intense. And the groom’s reaction when he saw her in her black wedding dress for the first time? Truly unforgettable. It was one of those reactions that reminds you why slowing down and savoring that walk down the aisle is worth it. First looks do make a photographer's job easier, but weddings like this remind me of why that tradition is so special. I think it's worth it to wait.

The bridal party absolutely killed it with their rich Halloween-inspired palette:

  • Maroon
  • Burnt orange
  • Deep emerald green

It created the perfect mix of spooky-season elegance and warm fall tones—exactly what a Halloween wedding in Ohio should feel like.

Horror Movie Decor With a Nostalgic Twist

Their reception décor was pure creativity.

Each table was themed with iconic horror films, complete with old VHS tapes, vintage covers, and little cinematic touches.

They even played horror movies on a retro TV using the original VHS tapes, which had guests fully transported back in time.

And instead of a traditional dessert table?

A full Halloween candy spread—trick-or-treat nostalgia at its finest.

Beetlejuice Costume Change

Right when I thought the day couldn’t get any more iconic… they changed into Beetlejuice + Lydia's red wedding outfits from the end of the movie.

It was unexpected, playful, and so THEM.

The guests absolutely screamed (in the best Halloween way).
